Customer Reviews

Just fantastic - Rated 5/5
I never write reviews - I don't have the time or the inclination but for this book I can't not. Beautifully written, heartbreaking and hilarious in equal measures. The author's situation mirrors my own so I feel a particular connection with it but even leaving aside that, it's a really good read.

read this book! - Rated 5/5
The day-to-day struggles of a lonely young mum, and how an uban chick falls in love with the country are beautifully captured in this lyrical book which is absurd, funny and poignant in turns. A lovely read!

Life in the North - Rated 4/5
I haven't read the blog but I find books from blogs an interesting phenomonen. I loved this glimpse into Judith O'Reilly's life - warts and all. Her struggle to adjust to the life even though she hated the whole idea of it was touching and hilarious. Her descriptions of people and the surrounding countryside are spot on and bring things to life. Being in short sections it is good to read if you're travelling. I couldn't identify with her standard of living but the emotions involved in leaving a much loved location and starting a new life in a place you really can't take to are universal. The only thing that did irritate me was why on earth she kept managing to run out of petrol. Yes it was her hsuband's job to fill the car but surely she would have checked it every time she drove it having run out the first time?

Live life to the full - Rated 5/5
Having followed the blog from day one I eagerly awaited the publication of this book. I was not disappointed. Judith writes beautifully and dares to say out loud what many of us are thinking. Judith has a way of quickly getting to the heart of the matter with wit and insight. The writing is inspired and paints wonderfully detailed pictures. The sad reflections brought tears to my eyes but her wry take on life made me laugh out loud. I found that viewed my own problems from a healthier perspective after reading the trials, tribulations, fun and friendships so eloquently written about in the book.

The tragic event which precipitated the move 'up North' is described with such depth that I cry each time I read it but mostly the writing will have you clutching your sides with laughter. Judith seems to sum up each incident so succinctly with just the right phrase. I feel privileged that Judith has allowed us these glimpses into her life. I highly recommend this to all and - watch the video it is great fun - amazing what can be achieved in a minute!

I love this book! - Rated 5/5
If you've ever felt a little bit lonely, in the wrong place or not living quite the life you intended, you will identify like mad with this book. Judith O'Reilly writes beautifully, she'll make you laugh and cry with her poignancy and tremendous humour. But most of all she'll reassure you that eventually, in the end, everything will be ok.

Loved it.
