Customer Reviews

Wonderful resource for people considering freelance writing - Rated 5/5
I read this book to give me an idea of what life would be like as a freelance writer. Linda Jones does not promise you that you'll make loads of money or make you think it will be easy to break into and then maintain a career in freelance writing.

However, reading this book is like having a chat over a cup of coffee with a trusted friend. She shares successes and failures.

Some of the helpful tips included are six of the best. She covers journalism, writing short stories for women's mags, blogging, keeping a website up to date. She provides helpful websites and books for further reading.

Also covered are other types of freelance writing, such as copywriting and public relations material.

While not an extensive guide, it is a very good starting place for any prospective freelance writer.

If you only buy one book about writing . . . . - Rated 5/5
An excellent book about starting out in the world of freelance writing for newspapers, magazines and the internet as well as lots of great tips for commercial writing - catalogues, press releases etc. There are plenty of good websites to look at, books to read and people and organisations to contact. It is small and compact, but full of information and advice, much of it from the author's own experience. If you're thinking of tackling freelance writing, buy this book first - it will either increase your enthusiasm or convince you that this type of work is not for you.

Teaching aid - Rated 5/5
Thank you Linda Jones for writing a book on journalism that is understandable to those that are new to writing. I am now using this book as a teaching aid for my creative writing students. I recommend all Adult Education Tutors purchase this book - it's a little gem.

A perfect combination... - Rated 5/5
....of realism, insight and experience.

As a fledgling writer myself, I'm slowly getting to grips with the competitive, difficult but ultimately rewarding world of freelance journalism and this is the perfect companion. Full of useful tips that could only come from someone with enough experience to back it all up, I'm certain that this will help any freelancer find their place in the market

disappointing - Rated 2/5
This book calls itself 'the greatest freelance writing tips on the world' but doesn't come anywhere near. I know this is not a guide on writing, it's a book of tips, but as such I expected it to be packed full of gems and nuggets of information and it wasn't. Despite 158 pages, there wasn't a page devoted to advice or tips on the subject of using quotes - and that's something an experienced writer should have provided.
