a very pleasant book - Rated
I really enjoyed reading this book...it went fast and now that it's finished I am really looking forward to reading "Vous revoir", the "second part" of the story. I read it in French (which is not my first language) and I want to express my appreciation for the language as well which is simple and beautiful. It containes a great lesson for life...read it!!!
Et si c'étais vrai - Rated
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing is deceptively simple and there are some witty repartees as well as some very sensitive passages. Each turn in the story completely surprised me.I could not put it down,
I enjoyed it even more after a visit to San Francisco and realized that I can now visualize the setting exactly. I have bought it in translation for my daughter who does not read French, but I am more than a little worried as I find the title different from how I would have translated it. 'If only it was true....'. I would have thought, 'What if it were true' might be a better suggestion. I hope it is not a too literal translation and so missing all the nuances of the original.
Excellent book - Rated
This is an excellent book. The movie 'Just like Heaven' was loosely based on this book, but the book is so much better! If you are lucky enough to read in French, do read the book in its original version, which is much better than the translation! I still have to read the sequel to this book, but I am scared to read it as I enjoyed 'Et si c'était vrai' so much!
Good book, great summer read. - Rated
M. Levy is one of the latest great contemporary French writers. His writing is readable, accessible and the storyline good. His work won prizes and it looks likely that he is going to be winning quite a few prizes yet.
The plot so far: Lauren, a young woman in a coma, places her "double" in her bathroom cupboard. Arthur, who just moved in, discovers this woman when taking a bath. Of course, love is born between the invisible woman and the young architect whose friends start thinking of him as mad. Of course, since he speaks to himself. But, in the hospital, the nasty medics threaten to use euthanasia. A race against the clock is starting. An incredible story which may well end up being true. A first novel which Steven Spielberg is thinking of making a movie.
